I’m a little late on this one.  Unless I travel back in time to before I ever started this blog.  Then I’d be super early.

Why didn’t the Smoke Monster take Locke?

Remember back at the end of the first season when Locke nearly got pulled underground by Smoky?  Jack held onto him, even though Locke said it was okay for him to let him go.  (We still don’t know what Locke thought would happen.)

Smoky ripping off that French dude’s arm proves what we’ve long suspected: it’s super powerful.  So why exactly did it not finish the job with Locke?

Is the temple still there?

Rousseau’s baby daddy says that Smoky is only trying to protect the temple.  (Of course, he then tries to shoot her, so it’s hard to say whether or not we can trust his assessment.)  We haven’t seen that temple before, but there’s always the possibility that it doesn’t exist anymore.  In fact, perhaps the hole it was trying to take Locke into was where the temple used to be.

While I think Smoky has appeared in a number of different places, I don’t know the geography of the island well enough to say for certain that they weren’t all in the vicinity of the temple.  Or maybe there are/were multiple temples.

Is the Smoky all bad?

Sure, it’s killed people, at times skinning them alive.  And that is a bad thing.  But it’s also come face-to-face with Locke and Eko without harming them.  (It did later kill Eko, but I think that was more a plot device than anything else.)

My point is, maybe it’s not trying to harm people when it pulls them under.  Sure, it ripped that guy’s arm off, but it might not have realized what it was doing.  I’m not sure exactly why it would want them down in the hole, but Smoky is a very secretive guy.

Those were two dead bodies of the same person, right?

Even rewatching it last night, I’m still not entirely sure what the deal was there.  If the men with Rousseau someone started to time travel, and she didn’t know what was going on, I can see why she went so crazy.  (Plus, there was definitely something going on with her baby daddy.)

Why does Charlotte speak Korean?

Because they wanted her to do something semi-useful before she died.

Had Locke really not considered the fact that the Orchid might not be there when they arrived?

Sawyer asked him what they would do if it wasn’t there, and Locke practically shit his pants.  You’d think this would have occurred to him.  And even if it hadn’t, he could have easily responded that they’d just wait until the next time flash.  This is the writers (or the director) trying to make something out of nothing.

Is Faraday going to go crazy?

Charlotte tells Daniel that she’s pretty sure he warned her not to come back to the island when she was a little girl.  Based on his reaction, he obviously hasn’t done this yet.

Now, he has adamantly stated that you can’t change the past.  That fact makes him talking to her as a little girl both completely necessary and completely pointless.  He has to do it because it’s already in the timeline.  But he’s wasting his time because he knows she’s going to die.  It’s a strange, strange thing indeed.

My worry is that, despite knowing he can’t change things, he’s going to go crazy trying to fix it.

Are Christian Shephard and Ben working against each other somehow?

He doesn’t seem to like what Ben did.  Maybe Ben has gone rogue.

Did Locke messing with the wheel put the island back on regular time?

Otherwise, I don’t see how everyone else isn’t going to die before our friends back home return to the island.  Plus, I don’t see how their return is going to help anyway.

What is Ben’s bigger concern?

I didn’t realize until I started this post that Ben could use Desmond to find and kill Penny.  But maybe getting everyone back to the island is much more important to him right now.  My question is: why?  He can’t just be trying to save everyone on the island.  Something bigger is at stake.
