I always imagine that I am going to write these the very next day, then the weekend comes and goes, then it’s the next week.  My apologies.

How do you know the writers have confidence?

Because they aren’t afraid to answer big questions at the beginning of the episode.  We’re all dying to know if they get back to the island, and they let us know at the very beginning of the episode that this happens.  (I loved how they mirrored the opening of the pilot.)  They’re able to get away with this because we all knew they were going to get back.  The real question we have is how, and that’s what the episode shows us…sort of.

Has Jack ever watched the Olympics?

Apparently not, based on that dive he attempted.  I’m one to talk considering that I can’t dive, but I thought it was a pretty pathetic attempt.  However, I do have to commend Jack for being more proactive than he’s been in quite some time.

Who is the Doubting Thomas?

Ben tells this story to Jack, and the obvious parallel would be that it’s referring to Jack himself.  But LOST has never been one for the obvious, and based on the story, the comparison doesn’t make sense.  Ben’s story is about how Thomas became known more for his doubting than his faithfulness.  This is the opposite of Jack, who was doubtful for so long but is now willing to believe.

I think this is referring to Locke.  He’s been more than faithful for so long, but perhaps something so incomprehensible happens that he begins to doubt.  But then someone proves the truth to him. (Actually, maybe this has already happened.)

Is Ben a cylon?

I wouldn’t be surprised.

What happened to Aaron?

This is the HUGE question.  The people harassing Kate were working for Ben.  So it wasn’t them.  Did someone else take him?  Did Kate abandon him, and if so, why?  She had no interest in returning to the island.  What changed?

Did Kate bite Jack?

Someone needs to teach that girl how to kiss properly.  I’ll volunteer.

Who beat up Ben?

It did appear that he was on some docks, and one theory I heard is that he got beat up by Desmond as he attempted to kill Penny.  This particular person thinks he DID kill Penny, which I’m pretty sure the show won’t let happen.  I honestly think I would stop watching if that happened.  And had Ben been thwarted by Desmond, chances are he wouldn’t be alive himself.

Of course, neither of them might know that Ben plans to kill her, so he could have just been snooping around.  But I don’t think this is the case at all.

Now that I think about it, a much more likely scenario is that he has something to do with Aaron.  Perhaps Ben blackmailed Kate into coming back, saying she’d never see Aaron again unless she did, and that she couldn’t tell anyone about it.

I loved how know one asked him about it on the plane.

Who’s the creepy guy in line?

A new character, that’s for sure.  Beyond that, who knows?

Who’s the girl with Sayid?

Ditto.

How perfect was Ben’s line “My mother taught me.” ?

This is his response when Jack asks him, “How can you read?”  It’s a typical smart-ass Ben reply.  But…it’s also a complete lie.  Remember, his mother died when he was born.

Brilliant.

Does Sun not care about her baby?

Ben told Jack that he was never coming back from the island.  Perhaps that applied to just him, but that seems unlikely.  So do the other people know they aren’t planning to come back?  I’m guessing not, since Sun made no mention whatsoever of leaving her kid behind.
