I have to admit that I was surprised that three years passed for those on the island (Sawyer and company) as well as for those that made it off (Jack and the gang). I figured Jack’s return would send him and his friends through time to a period right after they’d originally left. To me, the story of those that stayed is infinitely more tragic than the ones that left. After who knows how much frustrations and anguish, they’ve adjusted to life on an island they hate in a time period 30 years in the past only to have everything (probably) be interrupted when Jack and his fellow castaways come back.
Here are some questions I have:
Will the show “Walk Like An Egyptian” at some point?
We finally got a glimpse of what we can only assume was the three-toed statue. And though we only saw the back of it, I’d say it had an Egyptian feel to it. Add to that the ankh necklace from the episode and the hieroglyphics we’ve seen in earlier episodes, and I have to wonder when all of this is coming together.
Who knew Jimmy and Herc would be such good friends?
Okay, so maybe they didn’t seem like good friends. But fans of great television shows recognized the two Dharma guys from the opening. There was Jimmy from Mad Men, an insult comedian that you couldn’t help but like (especially when he got cheated on). And Herc from Friday Night Lights, Jason Street’s biggest companion outside of Tim Riggins.
LOST casts famous faces quite often, which seems like a strange practice to me. The actors it uses generally aren’t famous enough to count as “stunt casting” (aside from Cheech, perhaps), so it’s not a way to gain viewers. In fact, the actors are often familiar but not immediately placed, and I’m distracted for a few minutes as I try to figure out where I know them from. Being distracted is not good while watching LOST.
Plus, this isn’t the type of show that needs to cast people you know. The story itself is the intriguing element. I mean, they’re good actors, and I’m all for giving them work, but I still find it a bit strange.
What happened to Faraday?
It seems like my earlier worry that Faraday was going to start obsessing over the whole Charlotte time loop thing is coming to fruition. When we first saw him, he was muttering, “I’m not gonna tell her.” I assume he’s referring to Charlotte’s dying declaration that he warned her about returning to the island when she was a small child. Of course, he IS going to tell, otherwise it wouldn’t have happened. (Plus, it’s kind of strange that he would want to avoid telling her since it could potentially [though not really] save her life.)
We never saw him in the “present day” scenes, working with Dharma. There was that glimpse of him working in the caves during the season premiere, but that could have just as easily been a year and a half after they joined Dharma as it could be the current time period they’re in.
Point is, he didn’t seem crazy while he was down in the cave, so I think he eventually gets his shit together. But I’m guessing we’ll see some “flashbacks” of him dealing with the whole Charlotte thing and interacting with her as a little girl.
Why is Miles being so annoying?
I hate when a show, especially a show that can do things as crazy as LOST, creates manufactured drama. Why in the world would Miles be against the idea of going to the beach? First off, he says “the camp is gone,” but they don’t yet know what time period they’ve wound up in. Secondly, he complains that they “just keeping walking back and forth between the beach and Dharma.” They went to the beach to meet up with everyone that was still there at the time. And then they went to the Orchid to stop the time shifts, which, JUST SAVED HIS FREAKING LIFE! So stop bitching for no reason, Miles.
If they want to do something with his character, explain how he hears dead people. I’m guessing it has something to do with an experience he had on the island as a child, because I’m pretty sure he’s Dr. Marvin Candle’s son.
Why can’t women have babies on the island anymore?
I always assumed it was something inherent of the island that prevented anyone from conceiving and successfully giving birth on the island. But Sawyer brought up an interesting point when he said “maybe it hasn’t happened yet.” I never thought it could have been caused by something that happened. What exactly was it that happened? I hope we find out.
What are the details of this truce between Dharma and the Others?
Let’s pause and consider the fact that the two Others that were killed were trying to KIDNAP a woman and had JUST KILLED a Dharma guy. No one on either side seems to care about these points. So are the Others allowed to kidnap a woman every so often, and the Dharma people are supposed to let it happen?
A friend of mine suggested that perhaps Amy and her husband weren’t supposed to be so far out, but in the same breath she realized that since Amy was so terrified about breaking the truce, it’s not likely she would have knowingly broken such an easily followed rule.
Are you a Sawyer/Kate person or a Sawyer/Juliet person?
I think the answer says a lot about you. Me? I’m torn. I’ve always loved Sawyer and kind of hated Jack, so when they were competing over Kate, I wanted Sawyer to win. Plus, he and Kate just seemed like they were made for each other. And then Jack and Juliet seemed right for each other, so it seemed to all be working out.
However, I don’t really like Kate that much either. She and Jack are my least favorite of all the original main characters (and even many of the main characters that have appeared since and a heck of a lot of the side characters). Meanwhile, I like Juliet a lot. So having two of my favorite characters, Sawyer and Juliet, be together, makes a lot of sense. Plus, while we don’t know exactly when their “relationship” started, it’s definitely lasted longer than Sawyer’s time with Kate.
I just want Sawyer to be happy.
Is the recession affecting ABC?
As the show ended, the promo for the show that followed, Life on Mars, declared something about “going back to the 70’s.” For those that haven’t heard, this show isn’t getting renewed. So maybe ABC figured the best way to make use of those costumes was to set LOST during the same time period, since they knew it would be around for awhile still.

Kendall added these pithy words on Mar 05 09 at 6:48 pmVery interesting ideas! I’m all for Sawyer/Juliet! I’m with you on the Jack/Kate issue. Old news!
So since they are in the 70’s, do you think the original plane crash will happen or is the new plane crash going to replace the old one?
slowclap added these pithy words on Mar 05 09 at 6:57 pmThe original plane crash still has to happen, otherwise it totally corrupts the time continuity.
Also, this second plane crash happens more than three years after the first one. And remember, it’s not in the 70’s because only Jack, Kate, and Hurley (that we know for sure) traveled back to that time period. For whatever reason.
