You don’t have to tell me that it’s been awhile since I last updated. At first I had an excuse, and a pretty good one at that. But it shouldn’t have gone this long.
Since I missed posting my thoughts on the last half of this season of LOST, I’d like to offer some predictions for things that will happen on tonight’s two-hour episode, from most obvious to biggest leap.
#5: SUN & JIN ARE REUNITED
This one seems like a given, which might explain why I’m not really that excited about it. I’ve never doubted that they’ll be reunited. Even when Jin was supposedly dead, I didn’t believe it.
Sun and Jin used to be two of my favorite characters. The progression of their relationship was great to follow, culminating with the news that Sun’s baby was indeed Jin’s, which at the time doomed her. But after that they got kind of boring. Killing Jin was the only way to create any real drama.
This season neither of them have had very much to do. Other than Jin interacting with young Rousseau, neither of them have contribued much to the main storyline.
Still, I’m sure I’ll be happy when they reunite. However, there’s no way it will even hold a candle to the ultimate LOST reunion. (And one of the best reunions ever, actually.)
#4: SOMEONE IMPORTANT WILL DIE
It’s almost become a tradition to kill off someone (or show that they’ve died) in the season finale, and I don’t expect this one to be any different. Now it might not be one of the main players. The most obvious choice is Dr. Pierre Chang, however, I don’t think he’s filmed those Orientation films yet. But it would make sense emotionally for him to have a bonding experience with Miles and perhaps die saving his life. Plus, we know he’s not around thirty years later, though we don’t know for certain that he’s dead.
So who will it be if it’s a more important character? I’ve heard speculation about Jin, but it would be stupid to reveal this season that he didn’t die only to kill him now. Others have said Sun, but I don’t see them killing her.
To be honest, I’m kind of terrified that they’re going to kill off Juliet. It would be HUGE, yet wouldn’t ruin the show. Plus it would reduce that love quadrangle back to a triangle.
I sincerely hope this doesn’t happen.
#3: ALL THE SURVIVORS END UP IN THE SAME TIME PERIOD
This would seem to be a given if Sun and Jin are going to be reunited, but it’s conceivable that only Sun could travel back in time. However, I think it’s important that Jack and Locke be together again now that Jack wishes he had listened to him. Jack is ready to follow, and it might just be Locke that stops him from making the wrong decision. (Though I think it will be someone else, which I’ll mention later.)
Besides, I think the whole “working for Dharma” thing is played out. Not to say it hasn’t been fun, but they should probably come back to the present to fight whatever war it is that’s been mentioned forever.
#2: LOCKE DOESN’T KILL JACOB…BUT SOMEONE ELSE DOES
Locke just told Ben (and us) that he’s going to kill Jacob. If I’ve learned anything from LOST, that means that now it can’t happen. At least not that easily.
I don’t know why Locke needs to kill Jacob, but I believe he’s correct in thinking it’s the right thing to do. However, I think he’ll be prevented and/or unable to go through with it himself. Sure, Locke’s had no problem killing “for the island” before, but this sounds like good drama.
So who kills Jacob instead? I like to think it will be Ben, who finally steps in to help Locke instead of harm him. Remember in Return of the Jedi when Darth Vader steps in and takes down the Emperor because he’s about to kill Luke? I wouldn’t be surprised if it goes a little something like that.
There’s also the chance that Richard steps in. Of course, there’s also the chance that Richard IS Jacob. (Think about it.)
#1: JACK TALKS TO HIS FATHER
We all know this is coming. There’s a very good chance they’ll save this for the series finale, or at least the last season, but Jack has to have a face-to-face conversation with Christian Shepard. Even though Jack’s changed a lot and seems to have gotten over some of his issues, they keep resurfacing. He’s not going to be truly healed until he has a heart-to-heart.
Setting off the bomb seems like a very bad decision to me, but there’s hardly anyone who’s going to be able to talk Jack out of it. Locke is a possibility, but Christian makes more sense. I mean, you’d normally listen to your father if he told you not to do something. Wouldn’t you listen even more if he were dead?
